As the leaves turn and the days grow cooler, our kitchens at Nellsar Care Homes are embracing the season with comforting, nourishing meals designed to support our residents’ well-being. Autumn and winter bring unique nutritional needs, and we’re proud to meet them with warmth, flavour, and care.
How we keep our residents warm through food
Food is one of the most powerful ways we care for our residents, especially during colder months. Our seasonal menus feature warming dishes that help maintain body temperature and energy levels. From slow-cooked casseroles and hearty soups to oven-baked favourites, every meal is thoughtfully prepared to offer comfort and nourishment.
Celebrating seasonal flavours
We’ve infused our menus with the rich, earthy flavours of autumn and winter. Root vegetables like parsnips, carrots, and swede take centre stage, alongside seasonal fruits such as apples and pears. Herbs and spices like rosemary, sage, cinnamon, and nutmeg add depth and warmth to both savoury and sweet dishes.
A collaborative approach to menu planning
As Co-Lead on our autumn-winter menu planning cycle, I’ve worked closely with our catering teams to ensure our meals reflect the tastes and needs of our residents. We’ve focused on dishes that are not only nutritious and easy to digest, but also familiar and comforting, bringing joy to mealtimes and a sense of home to every plate.
More than just a meal…
At Nellsar, we believe food is about more than nutrition; it’s about connection, dignity, and care. Our seasonal menus are designed to spark conversation, evoke memories, and create moments of warmth and togetherness.
Whether it’s a bowl of homemade soup enjoyed by the fire, or a spiced apple crumble shared with friends, our meals are crafted to nourish both body and spirit.
