On Friday 15 May at our Care Home in Woking, I hosted a special cooking demonstration in our Bisley Unit for our residents living with dementia, as an engaging and sensory-focused activity.
Using our portable hob in the lounge, I prepared fresh pancakes, allowing residents to enjoy the familiar sights and aromas as they cooked. There was a selection of toppings to choose from, including strawberry, orange and blackcurrant jam, and traditional lemon and sugar.
Our team members Olivia and Aryan kindly assisted with serving, ensuring everyone could enjoy their pancakes warm and freshly made.
Our resident James shared that it was the best pancake he’d eaten! The experience clearly tickled his tastebuds as he later asked if I could prepare noodles for him for supper as he really enjoys them – a request I was more than happy to fulfil.
It was a wonderful example of how food can support meaningful engagement and create enjoyable shared moments within our Home.
